Screen Printing, which is also known as Silk Screening, is a method of printing graphics on a t-shirt using inks that lay on top of the shirt rather than soaking into the shirt. Screen printing is better for graphics with only one or two ink colors being used.
One of the reasons that the screen printing technique is so widely used is because it produces vivid colors. Screen printing is also favored because it allows for easy reproducing of a design. Because the same stencil can be used to duplicate a design, it is very useful for creating multiple copies of the same garment. This makes screen printing a great choice for creating custom clothing for sports teams or work uniforms.
Embroidery is decorating fabric with a needle and thread. It gives a garment more dimension and allows your logo to stand out. Embroidery thread is coated and the sheen from the thread helps to add the 3D effect to your garment.
Embroidered logos are three dimensional because they are sewn, not printed, onto the product and the thickness of the thread is what provides the third dimension. Embroidery involves a needle piercing a piece of fabric several thousand times, pulling the thread behind it. Due to the physical limitations of this process, minor changes to a logo's design may need to occur in order to achieve optimal results. This mostly involves simplifying the logo's design by resizing or repositioning the text.
Sublimation is the process of using heat and pressure to embed a design into the fibers of a textile.
The images and graphics are printed on special paper with sublimation dye placed on the garment. Then heat is applied, allowing the ink to become part of the fabric by permanently embedded in the fibers of the garment. This will leave you with a more breathable, soft-hand feel to the fabric. The best part is that the colors, numbers, letters, and graphics will never fade or come out in the wash for the life of the garment! The pieces of the garment is then cut out and sewn together to create a beautifully sublimated product. The entirety of the garment can be designed including the sleeves, collars, fronts, and backs.
Vinyl Transfer, often know as vinyl heat transfer, is a process that involves a machine that cuts out designs and letters on pieces of colored vinyl and heat presses the garments in order to transfer each piece of vinyl onto the material.
The process is as follows: Mock up the design, print and cut out the design, position the product and transfer paper, heat press the vinyl onto the garment, peel off the transfer paper, and wear the garment! Vinyl Transfer is a great option if you are printing customized designs with different names, such as sports team uniforms.
